Functional Training Statement

Training Courses


MAPAC's training courses are free to MAPAC agency members when regularly offered.  As most courses have a registration limit of 30 trainees, agencies may send up to two individuals.  If the 30-trainee limit is not reached for the courses, agencies may send more than two individuals and registration is open to non-member agencies and individuals.  Agency members may also arrange for organizational-specific training, but will need to pay for instructor costs.  

Item Writing

This course was designed to provide participants with the tools needed to craft well-written and effective test items. Course topics include: test planning, job analysis, task statement development, best use of multiple choice items, advantages and disadvantages, components of multiple choice items, item writing, item reviewing, item critiquing and editing, different levels of items, statistics and item analysis.

This course is geared for the practitioner with prior knowledge and experience regarding test planning and job analysis.

Job Analysis

This course promises its’ participants with the essentials of conducting a thorough and technically sound Job Analysis study that is in accordance with the Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures. This course has been recently updated to include current developments in the area of Job Analysis.

This is a three day course and has been designed for those who are relatively new to the field. The course covers the following topics: general model of Job Analysis for content validation, review of Uniform Guidelines and APA standards, relevant legal cases and findings, methods of Job Analysis, choosing a Job Analysis strategy, methods of data collection, task statement and KSA workshops and verification and documentation of Job Analysis results.

Essential Statistics for Selection Specialists

A solid foundation in applied statistics is essential for all Personnel Assessment professionals.  The purpose of this course is to provide participants a blend of statistical theory and practical application related to personnel assessment.  This three-day workshop will cover areas such as descriptive statistics, correlations, reliability, validity, weighting test components, and setting pass-points.  Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be better able to critically evaluate the effectiveness of their examination plans and assessment results.

Functional Training Statement


Statement of Functional Responsibilities

The MAPAC TRAINING COMMITTEE shall consist of a chair and representatives of at least four MAPAC member agencies. Representatives will normally be expected to serve terms of at least one calendar year. The main purpose of the Training Committee will be to promote, insofar as possible, the training and staff development of assessment professionals employed by the member agencies. While specific activities will vary from time to time, the Training Committee will be charged with the following functions:

1. Regular communications with the member agencies to identify training needs and resources.

2. Coordination with IPMAAC and the regional assessment groups involved in the development and maintenance of resource directories, libraries, and other resources related to the training and development of assessment professionals.

3. Development for circulation to member agencies bibliographies, resource directories, reading lists, and other organized materials useful to the training and development of assessment professionals.

4. Coordinate the development and administration of specific training and development activities (e.g., joint MAPAC/IPMAAC Test Planning Seminar) for use by member agencies.

5. Maintain, update and administer, as necessary an appropriate, the established MAPAC training courses.
