Just a few odds & ends to finish off this issue.
If you haven't paid a visit to the IPMAAC web site lately you really should stop by. About half of the '97 conference presentations are available and there is a slide show of about 60 pictures taken at Newport Beach (including some great water ballet shots!).
It may only be October but it is time to begin getting ready for Chicago! (The '98 conference will be held there June 21 - 25.) Actually the work has already started -- the Program and Host Committees are busy beginning the process of preparing another great conference. Please give serious consideration to getting involved. This is truly one of those cases where the more the merrier, not to mention a great conference. Jean Tozer with Louisiana State Civil Service is heading up the Program Committee. You can get in touch with her at 504-219-4263 or 504-342-8539 or by email at jtozer@dscs.state.la.us. Renee Jones from Cook County Department of Human Resources has the Host Committee and she may be reached at 312-443-6090 or by email at rdjones@wwa.com. Give one of them a call, or better yet, give them both a call! (In the next issue of the ACN we will publish the full list of '98 committee chairs in case there are other committees with which you would also like to get involved.)
Karen Kimball from Immigration and Naturalization Service asked me to pass on the following information: The Immigration and Naturalization Service is seeking experts in test construction to create logic-based test questions that evaluate reasoning skills relying on inductive and deductive reasoning. The work will be done on a contract basis. The INS requires these questions to examine applicants for entry into Border Patrol, professional law enforcement and adjudicator occupations and also for managerial positions at INS. Requirements to do this work include at least at B.S. or B.S. degree, a minimum of specialized experience in verbal reasoning ability measurement, successful completion of at least one course in formal logic or extensive use of formal logic to develop test items for tests of reasoning; and the ability to write logic-based, reading comprehension questions. If you are interested you should contact Karen Kimball, Senior Examining Analyst, Research and Development Division, Office of Human Resources and Development, Immigration and Naturalization Services, 425 I Street, N.W., Rm 2236, Washington, DC, 20536, Phone: 202-616-5621, Fax: 202-305-3664.
Well that about covers all I had to say this time around. By the time you are reading this most of you will be enjoying the cool, brisk fall weather and pretty leaves while those of us in Florida are still dealing with summertime temperatures. You know I may be slightly envious of those of you living in a more northern climate. I'll have to think about it and get back to you say in December and February . . .
As always, I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
