From the Editor
by Beverly Waldron
This issue: As you’ve probably noticed, this issue of the ACN has several good articles covering a variety of topics. Warren Bobrow redeemed his article IOU with an interesting piece on the scoring of assessment centers; T.R. Lin submitted a reprint of an article on IQ, EQ, and PQ (constructs that we are beginning to hear more and more about) that he originally prepared for the PTC-SC newsletter; and Jailza Cader provided us with a summary of the paper with which she won the 1996 IPMAAC Student Paper Award, Reactions of Simulated Job Applicants to a Personality Inventory. Adding these to the great work done by our associate editors and regular contributors should provide you with interesting reading. Thanks to all of you who gave of your time and effort to this issue of the ACN.
Courtesy of the wonderful contributions made by our membership the length of the ACN had grown. Following the suggestion of one of our members we have added a short table of contents to the front page. We hope it helps you find (or refind) the articles that you are looking for.
Call for Submissions - Part One: The January issue of IPMA News will focus on assessment issues. Since we are the Assessment Council portion of IPMA we have been asked to contribute to this issue. Marianne Bays will prepare an article highlighting IPMAAC activities and services for this issue and we will be providing one or two ACN articles for reprint. In addition we would like to extend the call to any and all IPMAAC members who might wish to submit information or articles for inclusion in this issue of IPMA News. The deadline for submission is December 9th. The contact is Karen Smith, Director of Publications. She may be reached at ksmith@ipma-hr.org (e-mail) or 703- 539-7100 (phone). If you have an article or information on assessment which you feel would be of interest to the broader IPMA membership please contact Karen.
Call for Submissions - Part Two: On page 7 of this issue of the ACN you will find brief articles from our host and program committee chairs on our 1997 conference. Mabel gives us a nice glimpse of what to expect in Newport Beach. Then Mike and David have a brief note about the call for proposals which will soon be coming to a mail box near you. The quality of our conference each year depends upon our membership being willing to share their research, programs, innovations and ideas. Please consider submitting a proposal. It can be for a panel discussion, paper presentation, symposium, round table discussion, etc. The details on submission will be in the official call for proposals but the deadline is December 13th so it's not too soon to start thinking about what your submission will be.
Call for Submissions - Part Three: Any call for submissions which appears in the ACN would not be complete with a call for the submission of articles or information for the ACN itself. As always, we need your help. The help can take many forms. It can be an article, a question or suggestion for the Technical or Legal Affairs columns, a piece on a program or project on which you are working for inclusion in the Practice Exchange, an editorial or discussion item, etc. If it is on the topic of assessment and of interest to you, it is probably of interest to other IPMAAC members, so please share. As with our conference, the quality of the ACN depends upon you — the content does not just magically appear. We not only need your help, we must have it. To help you plan your busy schedule we publish the submission deadlines for the next three ACN's in each issue. Take your time, think about it, and submit! We still have plenty of room in the December issue, the February issue, the April issue, etc. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
Coming Attractions: As the closing issue for 1996, the December ACN will contain final ‘96 committee reports, a look by outgoing President Marianne Bays, and a look ahead by incoming President Paul Kaiser.
