Conference Update: Host Committee
Beverly Waldron
Depending on where you live, you may not appreciate being told that here in the middle of January the temperatures at St. Pete Beach are hovering between the mid 70's and the low 80's. Lots of blue sky and sunshine, too. And the conference isn't until June!
Unfortunately, we can't move the date to give you an early escape to the sunshine, warmth and beach but just because the conference is still 4 months away doesn't mean you can't start making plans.
In the last two issues of the ACN we have tried to give you some ideas of what there is to do at the hotel and in the area. If there is something specific on which you want more information let us know. We will either forward the information on to you or have it available at the conference. (You can send your requests be e-mail to bwaldron@co.pinellas.fl.us or by fax to 727-464-3680.)
You have probably seen it mentioned several times that this will be a casual conference. We mean it and strongly urge you to come casual! Suits, ties, wingtips and heels are definitely optional. This goes for presenters as well as attendees. Seeing someone on the beach in a suit always reminds me of those baking bags with the tie serving as the twist that seals the bag. We want you to enjoy your time here - not be slow roasted in your own juices. Of course, if you can only present well or get something from a session if you are all dressed up, by all means, dress up.
For our part we are enjoying the weather and working on our plans to try and insure you do enjoy the time you spend with us. We are working to try and have some type of social interaction each night to allow everyone the opportunity to meet, to network, to hook-up for other activities and to just have fun. We also want to make sure that you have plenty of time for your own enjoyment of the beach, water activities, and other area attractions. In the April issue of the ACN we will have more details on the social activities. We will also include a map and directions for those of you who will be coming by car.
4 months and counting. With the way time flies it really isn't that far away. In the meantime, just close your eyes and imagine yourself walking down the beach. No snow, no coat, no sweater, no wind chill; just sand between your toes, warm water lapping at your feet, a soft Gulf breeze, the molten orange sun melting into the water . . .
See you in June!
