From the Mouse Pad

by Brad Jensen

You are now reading the first of many columns devoted to all things computer. The intent is to keep you up-to-date with the happenings in the world of computers as they affect our lives as personnel specialists. In future columns, you might see a discussion of Internet topics, snazzy new software programs, on-line service providers such as America OnLine or CompuServe, new hardware, etc. Also, in coming issues, we will include a Q&A section to answer some of the most common questions or devote the whole column if the issue requires it. Tell us what you would like to know.

Let's be honest. This column is biased. I want you on the Internet. Not because of some faceless Internet group gives IPMAAC a kickback but because there is a lot of valuable information out there that can help you accomplish your job quicker and smarter. And, in the spirit of being honest, it's fun.

There are so many different way to connect to the Internet, how you do it is up to you. If you need help, contact your local guru or IPMAAC members Brad Jensen, Bill Waldron or Jim Johnson. If there is enough interest, perhaps a future column will be devoted to getting connected to the Internet. For now, there is a handout from the New Orleans IPMAAC conference you can receive free that explains what IPMAAC is doing on the Internet, why it would be useful for you, and how to access the IPMAAC information. Your FREE handout is available via electronic mail or "snail" mail (US Post Office) by contacting Brad (615-741-5515).

If you're already fluent with the Internet, you need the IPMAAC location for the World Wide Web:

http://www.ipmaac.org/

Start there, explore, and let us know what you think. A mailing list is also active. To register, send E-mail to: ipmaac-list-request@lists.best.com. In the body of the message include: subscribe. The mailing list will automatically subscribe the sender of the message.

That's it for this issue. Set your favorite browser at this column for future "hot off the press" information! Don't forget to write with you questions and suggestions for future columns.
