Monumental Ideas in Assessment
Conference 2000: June 3-7, 2000

Robyn Talesnik

Believe it or not, it's already time to start thinking about next year's conference in none other than our nation's capital, Washington, D.C. During the day, our participants will have an opportunity to attend workshops and sessions that are fundamental to our jobs as selection specialists. However, the evenings will paint a completely different picture! Whether it's an art exhibit at the Smithsonian or a tour of the Capitol Building, participants will have the opportunity to visit and tour one of the most architecturally beautiful and history-laden cities in our country. And did you say, "Food?" Washington, D.C. is blessed with a cornucopia of of dining experiences - every cuisine from Afghanistan to Zaire is available - and your Host Committee will make sure you know here to find it.

Of course, there are plenty of sessions to attend first--right? The Foundations Track will include workshops and presentations designed to cover the basics of assessment techniques and principles. The Management track will feature presentations about testing innovations, program management and assessment as part of the overall HR environment. As always, we will conduct concurrent sessions with panel discussions, symposiums and paper presentations. With all this action, there will certainly be something of interest to anyone who attends. You'll also have the chance to exchange information with other professionals at informal roundtable discussions. Updates will be provided throughout the year with more specifics about speakers and other conference features.

What can you do now--you ask?

Wel...keep reading!

Kathryn and I have been working hard to get this year's Call for Proposals out to as many interested parties as possible. We have made use of SIOP's quarterly publication, TIP, the PTC-MW newsletter as well as other various personnel assessment listservs , websites and regional organizations. However, some of the most interesting and practical developments in the field of personnel assessment is being conducted by our very own members. So please take this opportunity to think about challenges your organization has faced, innovations that you can share or research that you have been involved with. In addition, please take a few minutes to think of those you know who are just finishing a research project, or are working on something in their local jurisdiction or agency that is truly state-of-the-art or innovative. Perhaps you have just finished a project that worked extremely well, and would like to present with a colleague!

We are fortunate this year to be hosting our conference in a location close to many Federal agencies, consultant organizations and law firms. Kathryn and I challenge our members to make this year's conference the best yet! We realize that this will be no easy feat--but we are up to the task! Your help in actively participating at the conference and with recruiting presenters will be greatly appreciated!

The Call for Proposals is available on IPMAAC's web page http://www.ipmaac.org. Please visit the web-site and if it all possible fax or e-mail your proposal directly to Robyn Talesnik. By whatever means we look forward to receiving your completed proposal by e-mail, fax or mail by January 10, 2000.

lease do not hesitate to contact either of us if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions or if you are interested in joining the Program Committee. We'll be very glad to hear from you!
