1998 Conference Update

Jean Tozer

The 1998 conference in Chicago is six months away, but the deadline for presentation proposals is December 31!! If you still haven't submitted your proposal, NOW IS THE TIME to fax or e-mail it to Jean Tozer, Program Chair at (fax) 504-342-2386 or jtozer@dscs.state.la.us. (Voice 504-342-8539.)

This year's program will continue the popular offerings of both a Foundations Track and a Management Track in addition to the many concurrent sessions offering the latest programs, practices and research. The Foundations Track will provide hands-on workshops and interactive presentations covering the basics of assessment techniques and principles. The Management Track will offer insights and innovations in the integration and optimization of assessment strategies and services within the overall HR program.

Session topics will be as varied as the toppings on a Chicago-style pizza, ranging from testing via the Internet, to measurement of critical thinking, to test security issues, to negligent hire liability and test-taker vs. test-giver rights, and more. And of course, you'll have a chance to discuss practical solutions and innovations with colleagues and profession leaders at round-tables, forums, etc. Highlights will include insights from luminaries such as Wayne Cascio, Frank Landy, and Diane Halpern.

There will definitely be something for everyone. The conference gives you an unparalleled opportunity to hear and see the best practices in the business. You'll be inspired, energized and armed with practical solutions to bring back to your office. So start watching your mailbox for your copy of the pre-conference brochure and mark your calendar for June 21 - 25.

(Of course, you may want to plan on an extra day or two. Because after you get a taste for Chicago by attending the super social activities that Rene Jones, Host Committee Chair, is planning, you will definitely be tempted to stay!)
