Quotable Quotes

“If you treat an individual as if he were what he ought to be and could be, he will become what he ought to be and could be.” – Goethe

“Read more novels and fewer business books. Relationships are really all there are.” – Tom Peters

“I’m a self-made man. But I think if I had it to do over again, I’d call in someone else.” – Roland Young

“He deserves PARADISE who makes his companions laugh.” – Mohammed, THE KORAN

“Successful businesses don’t talk of minimizing risk – they talk of maximizing opportunity. The role of the businessman is to take risks. The sure loss is the riskless investment.” – Peter Drucker

“In international discourse, amid weighty and abstract deliberations, we must remember the human element. For the issues are too large and the world too small to forget that we are all manifestations of each other.” – Emily Willis. (Geo. Washington University, Class of ‘96)

The Value of Attending an IPMAAC Conference

(This is mostly for non-attendees)

The Boston conference had it all: Pre-conference workshops to hone or build new skills, keynote speakers by distinguished I/O practitioners, a variety of concurrent sessions, roundtable (informal) discussions, symposia, and other sessions, interspersed with breaks to promote informal contacts with others. Those who attended obtained real insight about where assessment is today, the innovations and experimental approaches that are underway, and a glimpse of the changes in our practices and our agencies/organizations that the future will bring. If you had been able to attend the Presidential Forum you would have been thrilled to expand your knowledge about the technological developments brought about by telecommuting, the Internet and the World Wide Web. Our challenge is to master these rapidly developing changes through learning and training.

Another benefit that sometimes escapes us in our very busy world of doing more with less, is the opportunity for personal interactions with friends and colleagues, and the chance to make new friends and broaden social contacts. And, not in the least, the chance to relax and have a change of pace. (See Clydes Corner, Stress in the Workplace, ACN, April 1996.)

So what are your waiting for! Plan now to attend next year’s conference in Newport Beach, CA. You owe this to yourself and your personal growth.
