MAPAC

WRIPAC

The Western Regional Intergovernmental Personnel Assessment Council (WRIPAC) is comprised of working assessment professionals from sixty small, medium, and large public agencies throughout the western region of the United States. WRIPAC is planning its 1997 training workshop and regular meeting in Berkeley, California on April 30, May 1 and 2. Three concurrent workshops are being offered on April 30th: "Item Writing" by Mike Willihnganz, "Honesty and Integrity Testing" by Deniz Ones, and "Position Analysis Questionnaire (PAQ)" by Calvin Hoffman. Invited guest speakers on May 1 and 2 may include Robert J. Harvey on "Mini-workshop: Using Common-Metric Questionnaire (CMQ) to Address Personnel Problems," Deniz Ones on "Measuring Conscientiousness for Personnel Selection: Does Social Desirability Destroy Criterion Validity?", Paul Kaiser on "Innovations in Examining: Alternative Approaches to Employee Selection," and Karen Coffee on "Recruitment and Selection of the Internet: Opportunities and Issues."

Metropolitan New York Association for Applied Psychology

The February meeting of the Metropolitan New York Association for Applied Psychology featured "Spirit in the Workplace: An Exploratory Dialogue About Purpose, Vitality, Creativity, and Work" discussed by the Metro Officers and facilitated by Allen Schoer, CEO of the Actors Institute. Bay Area Applied Psychologists

The mission of this San Francisco Bay area organization is to promote professional and social contact among professionals working in the area of Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Dr. Robert Most spoke on "Industrial/Organizational Psychology in the Web Age" at the February meeting. Meetings are held quarterly and additional meetings are in the planning stages. PSC/Florida

PTC/Arizona

Personnel Testing Council of Arizona held a one-half day program in January on "Emotional Quotient: When Being Smart Is Not Enough" with presenters Mark Leathers and Jim Paisely of Leathers and Assoc. A one-half day program on "Surfing the Net: A Demo for HR Professionals" was presented by Alice McGarvey on March 27, 1997. The Personnel Testing Council of Northern California's Spring Conference "Personnel Perspectives: Bridges to the 21st Century" was held on March 13 and 14. PTC/SC

The Personnel Testing Council of Southern California holds luncheon meetings on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The March program was "Marketing Your Testing Services" presented by Heidi Hrowal of the Los Angeles Unified School District. For additional information, contact Kristine Smith, at (909)387-6086. PTC/SC will conduct a pre-conference workshop at the IPMAAC conference in July on Professional and Legal Guidelines for Testing and Selection.

PTC/Metropolitan Washington

PTC/MW will have a luncheon meeting on April 2, in which Dianne Brown of the FAA Civil Aeromedical Institute will present "Analyzing the Future Air Traffic Controller Job." Dr. Ruth Childs of American Institutes for Research will present "Working the Web: Tips for Personnel Testing Professionals on Using the Internet for Networking and Research" at the Luncheon Meeting on May 14. The June 11 luncheon meeting will feature Dr. Heather Roberts of the APA presenting "Rights and Responsibilities of Test Takers: Implications for Personnel Assessment." PTC/MW will be presenting a series of half-day workshops this year. The first workshop, entitled "Anatomy of Individual Assessment: Practical and Ethical Issues" was presented by Dr. Vicki Vandaveer of The Vandaveer Group in March. WRIB

The Western Region Item Bank (WRIB) is a cooperative organization of public agencies using a computerized test item bank. Services include draft test questions with complete item history, preparation of "printer ready" exams, and exam scoring and item analysis. Membership includes 179 agencies nationwide.
