News from the Executive Council

by Kaye Evleth

In July 1995, I participated in the Long-Range planning committee for IPMA. This committee was charged with developing a strategic Plan for the organization. After much introspection, the group determined that many programs currently in progress were beneficial and should remain in tact. As a result, we decided to focus our attention on new areas in which IPMA should direct its efforts during the next five years. The work products from this group approved by the Executive Council included a new vision statement and a new mission statement for the organization, and the identification of six long-range strategies. As an active Section of IPMA, the IPMAAC Board will also be focusing its attention in these six areas.

IPMA Vision Statement

To be the global leader in public sector human resource management.

IPMA Mission Statement

To provide professional human resource management leadership, education, information and representation services to advance organizational objectives and quality in the public sector.

IPMA Long-Range Strategies

1. Professional Development for Human Resources Managers

Enhance the expertise of public sector human resource staffs by expanding professional development opportunities which focus on new and emerging roles and competencies.

2. Improving Organizational Coordination

Become a unified organization that works together more effectively for mutual benefits.

3. Marketing and Membership Development

Increase awareness and communicate value of IPMA products and services to human resource management professionals.

4. Information Exchange and New Technology

Increase the exchange of and access to information with emphasis on state-of-the-art technology. Insure better, more timely, and cutting edge information is disseminated.

5. Definition of the International Role

Promote and expand IPMA's presence in the international human resource management community to share best practices for human resource development.

6. Resource Management

Continued sound management of the Association's assets is necessary to support the products and services which benefit the members and customers.

The IPMA Executive Council will be working on implementation plans for these strategies at its March 1996 meeting. Clearly, IPMAAC has already moved into developing programs that address several areas listed above, specifically, New Technology with our World Wide Web Home Page and Professional Development with our various training programs. The Board will continue to direct its attention to IPMAAC's contribution to IPMA's strategic plans.

In October 1995, the Executive Council approved the implementation of two new services for members: Fax-On-Demand and an Internet Home Page. IPMAAC will be gaining more visibility in the general human resources environment through these services. Contact the IPMA central office for more information on what's available.

The Executive Council has been very supportive of IPMAAC programs through its commitment to the ACN and the involvement of representatives on the IPMAAC conference program. My responsibility is to bring the interests and concerns of IPMAAC to the Council. I will be writing periodic articles for the ACN to keep you updated on issues of interest to IPMAAC members. If you have questions or comments about the IPMA/IPMAAC relationship, please contact me.
